Company & Data Setup

Using Business Units in your Company’s ZoneVu Account

ZoneVu allows you to mirror your company’s organizational structure by creating Business Units (BUs) and Sub‑Business Units (sBUs). This structure provides powerful tools for data segregation, access control, and client-level data isolation, ensuring your information remains secure and properly organized.

How Business Unit Access Works

  • Users assigned to the Corporate level have access to all data in the ZoneVu account, regardless of BU assignments.

  • Users assigned to a Business Unit (BU) or Sub‑Business Unit (sBU) can only access data within that BU and all of its nested sBUs.

Recommended Setup for Contractors

We recommends creating a Business Unit per client and assigning all related data (wells, logs, projects, documents, etc.) to that BU or its sBUs. This ensures each client’s data remains isolated, private, and secure.

Creating a New Business Unit

Only Admin‑level users can modify the Business Unit structure.

To add a new BU:

  1. Open the Admin menu and select Company Preferences.

  2. In the Edit Company Settings window, open the Business Units panel.

  3. Select Corporate.

  4. Click the 'Create' button to create a new Business Unit.

  5. Enter a name for the new BU and set a default coordinate system (optional)

  6. Click 'Save' or 'Apply' to save the changes

You can add as many Business Units as needed to build your full corporate structure.

  3. Enter a name for the new BU and set a default coordinate system (optional)
