ZoneVu Version 5.5 Release Notes

Adds Live Shared Projects, Gridding, and Active Directory Support

Last updated on 29 Jan, 2026

Ubiterra Corporation is pleased to announce the release of ZoneVu  5.5.  In this release the primary focus is continued development and improvements to ZoneVu Geosteer.   This release includes enhancements to ZoneVu and ZoneVu Geosteer and continues to add value to the important real time collaboration capabilities of ZoneVu.

ZoneVu Geosteer is the first browser-based, real-time geosteering application available and is tightly integrated with the ZoneVu Base and Rig Stream.  This means that any user with a login and permission to view the data will be able to access the live drilling well and see the exact position of the wellbore, relative to the target zone and any hazards, such as faults, zone boundaries, and other wellbores, at any time.

Shared Projects was introduced in ZoneVu 5.4, enabling operators and partners or contractors to share projects in real time further enhancing the time saving collaboration available with ZoneVu.

In addition to these significant enhancements support for Azure Active Directory is now included in ZoneVu.

Azure Active Directory:

Azure Active Directory is used in conjunction with Office 365.  This means that if you chose to utilize AAD you will be able to log into ZoneVu using your corporate email login credentials.

Create Surfaces Using Geosteering Interpretations and data points:

Geosteering Interpretations can be gridded creating a new surface that honors the tops that are the result of the interpretation.  It is also possible to include well tops and control point sets in the new surface.

  • Comparisons can be made with the original surface

  • Useful for predictions in adjacent wells that are drilling or planned

Project Sharing:

Project sharing adds new power to the already industry leading collaboration benefits found in ZoneVu.

The ability to share a project with a third party was introduced in V5.4 and further enhanced in V5.5 to enable the Geosteer Interpretation owner to control visibility and editable of his/her interpretation.

The benefits of Project Sharing can be realized in multiple scenarios:

  1. Operator sharing view of the project and geosteering with a partner that is not a ZoneVu customer.

  2. Operator sharing project and data with a geosteering contractor who is not a ZoneVu customer.

  3. Geosteering contractor sharing their interpretation with the Operator who is not a ZoneVu customer.

In all cases the entity that is shared to, has permission to see only the data and perform only those operations that are granted by the project/data owner.  Project sharing makes it seamless for all parties involved in the drilling of the well to be able to communicate and stay up to date with status of the well without time consuming email trains, meetings, and phone calls.

The example below represents an Operator on the left and a Geosteering Contractor on the right.  The Contractor only has access to the data from the shared project and can geosteer with that data.  Each time the interpretation is changed by the Contractor the Operator is notified and the interpretation the Operator is viewing is updated.  NO TIME CONSUMING SCREEN CAPTURES OR EMAILS!

The interpretation owner can determine who and when other users can view or edit an interpretation.

Other Features in ZoneVu 5.5:

  1. Zones and Surfaces are updated when a new Grid is added. This eliminates the problem of a surface or zone being incorrect due to new data.

  2. Display range on curves can be manually set

  3. Curve conditioning controlled with an MD range

  4. Interpretations can be exported with values at even increments
