Exporting a Geosteering Interpretation from ZoneVu:
(Related Article: Exporting a Geosteering Interpretation)
ZoneVu's default geosteering export samples the Geosteering Interpretation at the Block Boundaries and will provide the TVD, TVT, and Elevation depths for the assigned Geologic Target as well as Block Boundaries & Fault Flags. This default export contains the ideal information to import and rebuild a Geosteering Interpretation.
Exporting requirements for a Geosteering Interpretation from Other Software:
ZoneVu can import and rebuild Geosteering Interpretations if the following requirements are met
File Format: .txt, CSV, or Excel Workbook (.xlsx)
Required Information: MD depths with associated Formation TVD or TVT depths
TVD or Elevation are the preferred units
If TVT is provided the 0' TVT formation/point must be known, it's recommended the 0' TVT point correlates with the Geologic Target
Optional Information: Fault Flag Column & Fault Block Column
StarSteer:
Note: ZoneVu cannot read any .ss files. All files must be exported in either .txt, .csv, or .xlsx
Preferred: Horizons Export At Block Boundaries with TVD or Elevation information for the Target Formation
Horizons Export at Block Boundaries with TVT information: When 0' TVT is set on the Geologic Target
Horizons Export at Block Boundaries with TVT information: When the 0' TVT is not set on the Geologic Target
This requires you to change the Target Formation upon import to the formation assigned as 0' TVT in your StarSteer Project, and then change the Target Formation back to the Original Target Formation in the Geosteering Interpretation Settings
Detailed Geosteering interpretation export with 1' sampling
This is not the ideal format. ZoneVu will have to make assumptions on block boundaries and interpreted faults
You can control the base assumptions used upon import
Non-Ideal: General Geosteering Export with 250' sampling
This broad sampling will cause all the detail of the Geosteering to be sampled out
Boresight:
Preferred: Standard Export: This has the Well's MD and the Target formations TVD data
Type Log Exporting WellPath MD: Roughly the same export as the "Standard Export" but with additional columns of data
Control Point Export with control points placed at every block boundary
This requires a lot of work for the user to place control points at every block boundary
Non-Ideal: Control Point Export with broad sampling >10' sample size
This broader sampling will cause all of the detail of the Geosteering to be sampled out
Non-Ideal: Type Log Exporting - TypeLog MD: has the potential to cause importing issues. This export format is not recommended
SES:
Preferred: Coordinate, Properties, and summaries in CSV: This has the Well’s MD, Target formations TVD, and block boundary data
Tops TVD and Summaries: This has the Well’s MD and Target formations TVD data.
Kingdom:
Preferred: Standard Geosteering Export: This has the Well's MD and Targer Formation TVD information
